Question:
Portfolios are essential for professional to showcase their experiences, their ongoing professional growth and reflect on their activities.
Portfolios can be used in many ways, including to apply for employment or promotion; to support performance review requirements; career plan; and to apply for credit or enrolment at postgraduate school.
Nursing professionals should have a portfolio in order to comply with their NMBA’s continuing professional development requirements.
This assessment helps students gain a better understanding of the professional obligation for nurses to keep a portfolio.
It allows you to begin a portfolio that can be revisited and developed throughout your nursing career.
An organization or Internet-based website such as Google Sites will help you to develop an electronic portfolio.
The minimum number of sections or web-pages required for this stage is four, although students may add additional pages if they wish.
The required sections/web pages are:1.
Profile (“snapshot”): student’s personal attributes, academic achievements, and brief career. Strategies to meet NMBA guidelines.2.
Curriculum Vitae (personal data; academic and job history; referees. Interests).3.
Continuing professional growth (CPD): past and planned short courses.4.
You can use the Gibbs Cycle, or any other reflective framework, to reflect on a recent event in your work or education context.

Reflection
I want to reflect upon my university experience within the framework Gibbs Reflective Cycle.
I was in the first year of university, and the university professor was showing me how to apply wound dressing hand hygiene.
I clearly remember washing my hands before applying the wound dressing.
However, I neglected to wash my hands after finishing the task.
I was too quick to complete the task, and was late for vital signs.
I felt guilty for my mistake.
I could have wasted 5 minutes washing my hands in gel-based solutions.
It was very possible to spread infection. This was the worst thing about this experience.
The positive thing about this experience was that I was learning from my mistakes and the consequences.
I came to realize that planning and managing my time is a must.
To show my incompetence, this has been recorded to my diary.
I have made a detailed schedule of how I would complete each task.
This schedule is adhered to.
I had a discussion with my mentor, and he suggested some other ways to solve this problem.
During the initial period I began to set an alarm to remind me to wash my hands and to do other important chores.
After one month, I stopped using this method.
I’m very efficient in this matter.
