Your search process should be described succinctly. You should also justify the sources you searched for and the evidence you selected. Finally, discuss the place where your evidence is within a framework/levels.

Attach the abstract/s and summary/summaries for the highest level evidence to your final assignment.

Task 4

Compare and contrast high level evidence findings with current practice in your clinical environment.

You should discuss the strength and evidence of the recommendations. Additionally, you should clearly discuss the differences between evidence-based practices and those in evidence.

Discussion should focus on the lack of evidence or high quality evidence to answer your question.

Discuss potential barriers to EBP in the clinical setting you work in. And then discuss strategies and solutions that will promote EBP in your practice.

Answer to Question: CNA154 Nursing Practice 1

Task 1 – Describe a particular area of practice with curiosity or uncertainty.

My area of specialization is mental health nursing. This allows me to promote psychological well being of people, in addition to physical ailments.

Australia’s third-leading cause of disability is mental illness.

According to data from Australia’s Bureau of Statistics, anxiety disorder ranks third in disability burden in Australia. One-fifth of Australians have experienced symptoms of mental disorders within the past year.

The trend is expected to continue. More mental health nurses will be needed, and it will likely increase the demand for them (Mindframe 2017).

I am interested in mental healthcare nursing to support people suffering from mental disorders.

A holistic approach is required to assess the individual’s mental, spiritual, and psychosocial needs. This will help ensure that quality mental health nursing provides care.

The nurse’s role is to manage risk factors, provide early intervention, rehabilitation and focus on the recovery of each patient at each stage.

The problem with mental health nursing is that nurses are not able to understand the needs of complex patients.

Mental health nursing requires advanced knowledge.

Nurses are not able to empathize and communicate with patients.

While mental health nurses have the responsibility to improve physical health for people with mental illness (Robson, et al. 2013).

Stigma might be a problem for mental health nursing identities and professional practice (Sercu et. al. 2015).

The trend towards evidence-based practices is driven by critical reflection and the provision of care.

Evidence-based uncertainty can cause conflict between nurse-patient relationships.

Instead of focusing upon scientific evidence, nurses continue practicing according to tradition and haphazard testing.

This serves as a barrier to evidence-based practice utilization for mental health nursing (Alzayyat (2014)).

Task 2: Develop the PICO Question

Given the uncertainty and barriers seen in mental healthcare nursing practice, we need to know the factors that affect quality care in order to overcome these challenges.

PICO’s question asks “What difficulties do mental health nurses have in providing holistic healthcare to mentally ill patients in hospitals?”

The PICO elements of the question include the following:

P (Patient/Problem) – Mentally ill patients

I (Intervention).- Skills in mental health nursing

C (Comparison). This refers to the challenges or facilitating elements in holistic care.

O (Outcome). Effective holistic healthcare

Task 3: The Search Process for Highest Evidence Level To
