Cultural Competency In Nursing Care
The main aim of this post is to talk about the importance of cultural competency in nursing care. Apart from that, the paper will also talk about the roles and responsibilities that nurses should implement to create culturally competent health care. Papadopoulos et al., (2016) has claimed that cultural competence enables the nurse to comprehend, communicate, and interact with individuals efficiently. In simple words, it tends to enable understanding of the association between nurses and patients. Also, at the same time, it helps in obtaining knowledge of several cultural practices. Most importantly, this enables healthcare practitioners to understand the different views of the world (Rumun, 2014). Based on the above claim, the importance of being culturally competent could be realized in the health service scenario.
It gets significantly important to perform a cultural competence self-assessment, as this will help the healthcare practitioners with the understanding of their present caregiving practices. It gets important to determine the strengths and the weakness of the caregiver (Smith, 2018). Once the nurse is aware of his or her strengths, it will help them to provide services based on their cultural competence. Apart from that, obtaining a certificate in cultural competence also helps a caregiver provide quality care to the patients. The certificates could be obtained by attaining relevant healthcare pieces of training related to cultural competence. This will enable them with knowledge about different culture which they will be able to implement in their practice. Also, improving the communication will help in removing the language barrier between the caregiver and the nurse. Therefore, it could be realized that the key access in removing cultural barriers is reducing language barriers (Norouzinia et al., 2016). On a concluding note, it could be realized that with the implementation of all the duties and the roles that has been discussed it will enable the frontline caregivers to provide the best possible care to the patients.
